چکیده

Many experimental studies of protein deposition on solid surfaces involve alternating adsorption/desorption steps. In this paper, we investigate the effect of a desorption step (separating two adsorption steps) on the kinetics, the adsorbed-layer structure, and the saturation density. Our theoretical approach involves a density expansion of the pair distribution function and an application of an interpolation formula to estimate the saturation density as a function of the density at which the desorption process commences, ρ1, and the density of the depleted configuration, ρ2. The theory predicts an enhancement of the saturation density compared with that of a simple, uninterrupted RSA process and a maximum in the saturation density when ρ2 = 2 3ρ1. The theoretical results are in qualitative and in semi-quantitative agreement with the results of numerical simulations.

A RAIRS, TPD and femtosecond laser-induced desorption study of CO, NO and coadsorbed CO + NO on Pd(111)

Here we present a systematic study of the adsorption and laser induced desorption of CO, NO and CO + NO from a Pd(111) surface at a number of different coverages. We begin by characterising the surfaces using reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS) and temperatureprogrammed desorption (TPD). Experiments show that NO displaces pre-adsorbed CO considerably, but that CO has a much smal...

Adsorption , Abstraction , and Pairing of Atomic Hydrogen on Si ( 100 ) - s 2 3 1 d

Using thermal desorption mass spectrometry, we have shown unambiguously that the adsorption of atomic hydrogen on Si(100)-s2 3 1d leads to hydrogen pairing on silicon dimers at surface temperatures as low as 150 K and coverages as low as 0.2 monolayer. A detailed study of the adsorption kinetics shows a high probability of an abstraction reaction together with a coverage-dependent adsorption pr...

Hydrogen reactivity on highly-hydroxylated TiO2(110) surfaces prepared via carboxylic acid adsorption and photolysis.

Combined scanning tunneling microscopy, temperature programmed desorption, photo stimulated desorption, and density functional theory studies have probed the formation and reactivity of highly-hydroxylated rutile TiO(2)(110) surfaces, which were prepared via a novel, photochemical route using trimethyl acetic acid (TMAA) dissociative adsorption and subsequent photolysis at 300 K. Deprotonation ...

Uptake of Copper Acetamidinate ALD Precursors on Nickel Surfaces

The adsorption and thermal activation of copper(I)-N,N0-di-sec-butylacetamidinate on a Ni(110) single-crystal surface were characterized in connection with the use of that compound as a precursor for the growth of copper films via atomic layer deposition (ALD) processes. Studies were carried out under ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions by using a combination of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (...

Si(001):B gas-source molecular-beam epitaxy: Boron surface segregation and its effect on film growth kinetics

B-doped Si~001! films, with concentrations CB up to 1.7310 22 cm, were grown by gas-source molecular-beam epitaxy from Si2H6 and B2H6 at Ts5500– 800 °C. D2 temperature-programed desorption ~TPD! spectra were then used to determine B coverages uB as a function of CB and Ts . In these measurements, as-deposited films were flash heated to desorb surface hydrogen, cooled, and exposed to atomic deut...
